December 31, 2022

Team,

I am responding to a previous thread to include those that are new to the firm:

"A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty." - Winston Churchill

Moments of dislocation separate the strong from the weak. They create opportunity.

The world doesn't end very often, and the sun will rise again. The decisions we make when the sky is cloudy will ultimately determine if the sun shines on us when the storm rolls away.

Thrive's position is an enviable one. We were fortunate to make several positive decisions that have put us in a unique position in this difficult moment. It is essential that we not rest on our laurels, as the stakes have never been higher.

I wanted to share some thoughts and reflections for the year ahead:

  • I have never had more confidence that we are closer to maintaining our ultimate goal of being the leading firm in our industry. We have only realized a small portion of our potential. We own our destiny; our main competition is ourselves.

  • This moment of chaos is what we have all been waiting for. It will produce winners and losers. It will require greater precision than ever before. We must continue to focus on the inputs (culture, talent, teamwork) and not the outputs of our success.

  • We must be prepared and ready to do everything necessary to be the most meaningful partner to those we work with. Those that we are partnered with will need us more than ever.

  • Doing the right thing is always the right thing to do. If we maintain composure as we have, we can continue to win the hearts and minds of the ecosystem.

  • Diamonds are created under pressure. We should embrace this moment. I have always grown more from moments of turbulence. Irrespective of the broader market sentiment it is imperative that we maintain independent thought in everything that we do.

  • We must value the wisdom of the team and the conviction of the individual. We will win with kindness, integrity, and debate. We are one team and one culture. We are all in it together.

  •  It is important that we recognize that we are entitled to nothing. Nothing will ever be given to us. We have reached this point due to our intentionality, tenacity, work ethic, humility, and kindness. The hard work is just beginning.

  • We are entering a new era in our industry that could lead to endless transformation. Anything that has had a meaningful impact on the world came from the irrational passion of an individual or team. It is important that each individual at the firm follows their curiosity and passions to ultimately master their craft. Our desire to continuously improve, paired with our imagination of what the world can be can lead to endless possibilities.

I have never been prouder of Thrive. We transformed as an organization for the better this past year. I am deeply confident that we are just getting started.

Wishing everyone the best for a year filled with love, health, and happiness.

Yours,

Josh
